How to set up levels in your campaign to add Multi-Level Marketing to your Referral Program

Multi Level Marketing it's been around for a long time, and it's been used for companies to create a pyramid or affiliation schemes to reward indirect advocates. At Genius Referral, we provide one of the most advanced technologies for creating multilevel marketing.  Multilevel can be set up on your campaign on the 'Multilevel' tab.

Heads up!

Multilevel marketing is an optional section on your referral campaigns.

How does it work?

On the multilevel marketing incentive model, every time a direct advocate receives a bonus, the indirect advocates receive a bonus too. The following image shows how this model works.

As you can see in the image above, when the Referral converts, the direct advocate receives a bonus, and the indirect advocates also receive bonuses. Please see an example here of how to set up multiple levels

Bonus Calculation

When setting up a new multilevel, the first thing to configure is the bonus calculation. You must decide how to calculate the bonus to give to the indirect advocate. The calculation can be based on a fixed or a percentage amount.

Fixed Type

Use the fixed calculation method when you want to give to an indirect advocate (advocate level x) a fixed bonus value once the direct advocate receives a bonus.

Example of fixed type

Let's say that you have the following referral program campaign:  'Direct advocates receive $10 per each qualified referral, and indirect advocates receive $5 once direct advocate receives a bonus'.  And that John refers Matt, Matt refers Anne and Anne signs up on your website and completes a purchase.

In this scenario, John is the indirect advocate; Matt is the direct advocate and Anne is the referral. When Anne completes a purchase, Matt receives $10, and John receives $5.

Percentage Type

Use the percentage calculation method, when you want to give to an indirect advocate a variable bonus value that depends on the bonus value that the direct advocate has received.

Example of percentage type

Let's say that you have the following referral program campaign:  'Direct advocates receive $10 per each qualified referral, and indirect advocates receive 10% of direct advocate's bonus'.  And that John refers Matt, Matt refers Anne and Anne signs up on your website and completes a purchase.

In this scenario, John is the indirect advocate; Matt is the direct advocate and Anne is the referral. When Anne completes a purchase, Matt receives $10, and John wins $1 (10% of $10).

Threshold Value

Additionally, you can add to a threshold to limit the total aggregated amount of bonuses that the indirect advocate can receive in a multilevel.

Example fo the threshold value

Let's say that you have the following referral program campaign:  'Direct advocates receive $10 per each qualified referral, and indirect advocates receive $5 once direct advocate receives a bonus'.  And that John refers Matt, Matt refers Anne and Anne signs up on your website and completes a purchase.

In this scenario, John is the indirect advocate; Matt is the direct advocate and Anne is the referral. When Anne completes a purchase, Matt receives $10, and John wins $5. John will continue to receive $5 bonuses up to $300.

Creating Multiple levels on your referral campaign

You can create multiple levels to regards several levels of indirect advocates. The following image shows an example of a three levels campaign.

Multilevel Marketing Incentive Model Example

As you can see in the image above, we have 3 levels:

  • On level 1: the indirect advocate receives $5, every time a direct advocate receives a bonus.
  • On level 2: the indirect advocate receives $3 every time a direct advocate receives a bonus.
  • On tier 3: the indirect advocate receives 1% of the bonus value that the direct advocate has received.
