How to add extra rules to a campaign to customize even more my referral program

To give you more control of your campaign, we have created an extra set of rules that will allow you get more flexibility when configuring your incentive model.

Heads up!

This is an optional section on your referral campaigns. You are not required to have any extra rule, use this section only when needed.

Where do I set up new rules?

To set up additional rules for your campaign go to your account, click to edit your campaign, go to the 'Eligibility' tab and add your custom rules.

Rule: Total of day

Use the total of days restriction when you want to limit the total of days that the campaign will be active after the referral has signed up for your services.

Example of the total of days rule

Let's say that you have the following referral program campaign:  'Refer a friend and get $5 when your friends complete a purchase in the first week'.  And that John refers Matt. Matt signs up on your website and completes a purchase.

In this scenario, John is the advocate, and Matt is the referral. If Matt completes the purchase in the first 7 days after he has signed up, John will receive a $5 bonus. Otherwise, John will not receive a bonus.

Rule: Payment minimum value

Use the payment minimum value rule to set the minimum payment value allowed. When a purchase is lower than the amount set in this restriction, no bonus is given to the advocate.

Example of the payment minimum value rule

Let's say that you have the following referral program campaign:  'Refer a friend and get $5 when your friends complete a purchase, valid only on purchases over $100'.  And that John refers Matt. Matt signs up on your website and completes a purchase.

In this scenario, John is the advocate, and Matt is the referral. If Matt completes a purchase over $100, John will receive a $5 bonus. Otherwise, John will not receive a bonus.

Rule: Maximum bonus value to be given

Use the maximum bonus value to be given rule to cap the bonus value to give to the advocate. When setting up a percentage based campaign, sometimes the bonus value can be very high so you might want to limit the bonus amount to be given.

Example of the bonus value to be given rule

Let's say that you have the following referral program campaign:  'Refer a friend and get 15% of your friend's total purchase, up to $100 bonus per purchase'.  And that John refers Matt. Matt signs up on your website and completes a purchase.

In this scenario, John is the advocate, and Matt is the referral. If Matt completes a purchase of $1000, John should receive $150, but because of the $100 cap, John will receive only $100 bonus.

Rule: Maximum value per advocate

Use the maximum value per advocate rule to cap the total aggregated amount of bonuses that the advocate can receive out of a campaign. You can also a date range restriction to this rule to limit the value to a time period.

Example of the maximum value per advocate rule

Let's say that you have the following referral program campaign:  'Refer a friend and get 50% of your friend's total purchase, you can win up to $500 bonuses'.  And that John refers Matt. Matt signs up on your website and starts buying new products.

In this scenario, John is the advocate and Matt is the referral. Every time Matt completes a purchase, John receives 50% of the purchase value. When Matt makes a $100 purchase, John receives $50 and so on.  If Matt makes 11 purchases of $100, John should wins 11 * 100 * 0.5 = $550, but because of the $500 cap on the campaign, he receives only $500.

Rule: Total of payment

Use the total of payments rule to cap the total of payments made by a referral that are taken into account for giving a bonus to the advocate.   

Example of the total payment rule

Let's say that you have the following referral program campaign:  'Refer a friend and get 50% of your friend's total purchases, valid only for your friend first 2 purchases'.  And that John refers Matt. Matt signs up on your website and starts buying new products/services.

In this scenario, John is the advocate, and Matt is the referral. Every time Matt completes a purchase, John receives 50% of the purchase value. When Matt makes a $100 purchase, John receives $50 and so on.  If Matt makes 3 purchases of $100, John should receive 3 * 100 * 0.5 = $150, but because of the cap on the total of payments (your friend first 2 purchases), he receives only $100.

Rule: Minimum bonus value to be given

Use the minimum bonus value to be given rule to set the minimum bonus value to give to the advocate. When setting up a percentage based tier, sometimes the bonus value can be very low.    

Example of the minimum bonus value to be given rule

Let's say that you have the following referral program campaign:  'Refer a friend and get 50% of your friend's total purchases with a minimum bonus value of $10'.  And that John refers Matt. Matt signs up on your website and starts buying new products/services.

In this scenario, John is the advocate, and Matt is the referral. Every time Matt completes a purchase, John receives 50% of the purchase value. When Matt makes a $100 purchase, John receives $50 and so on.  If Matt makes 1 purchase of $10, John should receive 10 * 0.5 = $5, but because of minimum bonus value rule he receives $10.

Rule: Bonus to give to the referred customer

Use the bonus to give to the referred customer rule to set bonus value to give the referral. Use this rule to reward both the advocate and the referral.   

Example of the bonus to give to the referred customer rule

Let's say that you have the following referral program campaign:  'Refer a friend and get 50% of your friend's total purchases and give your friend $10 discount'.  And that John refers Matt. Matt signs up on your website and starts buying new products/services.

In this scenario, John is the advocate, and Matt is the referral. When Matt completes a purchase of $100, John receives $50, and Matt receives $10.
